The GRE or Graduate Record Examination has been a long standing favorite for students world over. Graduating students appear for the GRE & apply to Top US, UK & Canadian Universities in with their GRE Scores. Universities consider a number of factors before extending admission offer to international students. Their criteria typically include, prior academic record, letters of recommendation, statement of purpose & GRE Scores.

Getting a good score helps a student in many ways. Firstly, a good score is the sum of a student's scores in individual sections. These demonstrate a student's quantitative and verbal skills - both of which are important criteria for universities judging a student's standing. Universities Abroad use these scores to evaluate a student's analytical and verbal skills. Graded on 1600, a score above 1450 is typically considered a good GRE Score.

Over the years, students have used a wide array of resources to prepare effectively for the GRE. These resources encompass GRE Word Lists, books focusing on GRE Verbal Material, GRE Test Series, Online GRE Tests and packages that provide students with GRE Mock Tests. Apart from this, a number of classroom programs, providing GRE Coaching have also risen in popularity.

It's difficult to compare and contrast these resources. It can however be said that on a case by case basis, students can evaluate and choose the resource that best suits them. For instance, students from an engineering/mathematical background will require minimal help for the GRE Quantitative Section. However, they might get stuck with the GRE AWA section. Students hailing from background that isn't math intensive, usually find the GRE Quant section tricky. They are comfortable with the GRE Verbal, GRE Analytical Writing and Reading Comprehension sections. The best course of action for such students is to select a classroom or net based program that will help them get comfortable with GRE Math.

A major pain point for students all over is finding all GRE Registration info in one place. Thankfully, it's freely available on both the GRE site and a number of other sources on the net. Students are often concerned about GRE Validity (i.e., how long are scores valid) and GRE eligibility. A number of resources (both online and offline) help students in getting the right information.

Getting a good GRE Score isn't about being very good at math or being a shakespeare. It's just about preparing effectively. Proper planning and phasing of GRE Prep will make sure that you get above average scores in both the Quant and the Verbal Sections! At the end of the day, given proper time, it's fairly easy to do really well in the GRE Test!
