the highlight of your day was when you could use your limited Chinese skills to attempt to ask a guy, "你说中文吗?" (you speak Chinese, right?) AND he replies "是" (yes) without giving you a weird look! YaY!

You answer in Arabic, and have a full Arabic conversation while you finish getting your gas.

Permalink Reply by Lily Feldman on December 11, 2011 at 3:37pm The thing about another country you miss the most is having people stare at you for being a foreigner, then being able to impress them by speaking their language.
Or when you talk to someone in a language you know they don't understand, just because you can. :)

Permalink Reply by Briana Bowman on December 11, 2011 at 6:17pm when you dream about you on exchange and being with a host famliy. Though the dream was really bizzare, I still thought it was real and was sad when I woke up. Now this just makes me even more excited!

Permalink Reply by Briana Bowman on December 11, 2011 at 7:16pm haha ok well I was in this house but it looked like we were on fort Bragg (an army base that I kinda still live near by) and I had like 7 brothers and sister, an American mom and the dad was Korean. I kept like spinning in circles because I had no idea what was going and people were running around. The mom kept trying to talk to me and welcome me but she was trying to deal with all the kids (they are all full Korean btw). Their oldest daughter was about 11-13 and she was explaining how things work. All of a sudden the mom announced she wanted to go to bed soon and if anyone had bad grades to show that they should tell her now and the punishment would be less severe. About every single one of the kids walked up to her and showed a little slip of paper. Then she took out a spoon and whacked their hands (though some got popped on they behind). I remember thinking If this was the punishment I have nothing to worry about (because I used to get worse punishments for bad grades and this is like a spinoff of a very bad...punishment... my brother got on Friday). Then the dad randomly comes out with no shirt on and starts rambling on about something. He stops and looks at me all weirded out and the mom explained that I was the student they were hosting. Then it turned to the next day (this is where it gets weird) I was walking around and there was a huge line. I didn't know what it was for but a lot of people were in cosplay. I asked my friend what was going on and she started rambling about some guy. I didn't care too much but I spotted my host sister and she was byt the ftable where they were supposed to hold some kind of fansign event for the line. she called me over but some official lady stopped me and told me to go to the back of the line. just as I was leaving so dude dressed in some cosplay came out and all the girls were screaming and then I woke up...
I know its strange but... it just seemed more real and I got excited (the last time I had to apply for something I dreamt that I didn't get in and my friend did. It's sad because that's exactly what happened :( )
