Hi -- I'm working on the NSLIY application! I'm really excited, but I have a few questions.. first of all, I'm done (well, besides tweaking them) with the essay questions, but the host family letter?? I don't know how exactly they want that written out... If anyone has any tips on writing it or how they wrote it, i'd appreciate it.

Also, on the general medical questions section, it asks about medication/psychiatry/counseling etc. I do go to therapy every like 6-8 weeks... I'm not crazy or anything. But is that going to affect my chances of getting in? :/

Thanks.
Braelyn

Write it as a letter starting with Dear and so on (this is what I did last year and I became a semi-finalist). I even noticed while looking back at my old letter that I had a few grammar mistakes because I didn't type it in Word first. Opps. I talked very natural in my letter because it is a letter! So you don't have to stress over it very much just talk about yourself like how you would to someone in person.

And therapy. I don't think that will affect you. They might ask why but everyone needs someone to talk to. It's pretty common especially if you're a teen, lots of hormones and confusing emotions you want help on.  Hope this helped some. Good luck! ^^

Thanks very much, that does help. One more letter question, did you answer the specific questions like bam bam bam in order and super obviously to make sure you covered it all, or did you just kind of loosely follow it and talked about stuff?
I started my host letter with a greeting.. not really "Dear". I made it very personable, so I'm hoping I did okay. Gonna submit my application soon
