Hello from Marrakech, Morocco!

If any of you have questions about Morocco or about the NSLI-Y program here, please post them here. My fellow NSLI-Yers and I would love to respond to your questions in depth on our group blog: http://alimarrakech.blogspot.com/ (Check out what we've written already if you want to get a taste of the program. Trust me, we're all having an amazing time!)

Also, here is another great blog by a program participant:

sbtravels.tumblr.com (and her pictures from Morocco are at flickr.com/photos/sbtravels)

Is your main focus Arabic or an even mix of that and French?

I was also wondering about the French; I speak French, and was wondering if that's as widely spoke as Arabic there, or if you felt like it was getting in the way of learning Arabic? I don't want French to interfere with Arabic at all, and was wondering how people handled that if you guys had that problem. In Jordan last summer, we didn't really have issues with that, as it was just Arabic, but I keep wondering how Morocco is with Spanish and French and all.

Thanks for the questions - :) the answer is here: http://alimarrakech.blogspot.com/2012/01/q-french-arabic-by-sarah.html

Sarah, that blog is an awesome idea!

Thank you.  That was a very indepth answer:)

How much exposure have you had to the political scene in Morocco? For example the recent self-immolations or the protests. It is so incredible that you are learning Arabic and experiencing the culture during this momentous time in the Arabic world!

Ahh sarah this is an awesome idea! Miss u:))
