Hi Isfandiyor,

Just to help you with your search: The IREX website has the list of fellows (in years, according to countries and fields of study). That can help you to identify the fellows you want to talk with. But come back here too! :)

Hi, I am from Armenia. I am also interested in Muskie program so I was carefully reading the advice for the interview.Thank you Max for that, I hope it will work as I am invited for the interview on Wednesday, 18 January.

your advice was very helpful in the application process. I will again act accordingly :)

I would agree with Max. There is no need to memorize anything (but worth going through all your paper one more time). We all know our paths better than anybody else. Just practice to talk about that in more official and academic terms. And remember, it is not about you or your degree, but about what you can do thanks to the program.

It is extremely important to stay ourselves during such interviews. Integrity is important, so just be honest (we still do not know what exactly the selection commission is looking for). So just show yourself as you are, and if you fit, then you fit. Be articulate and enthusiastic, without being overactive or pushy. Be calmly confident and honest. Good luck guys!

indeed, your point of view is quite rational. I should consider that. Thanks Max

Actually,  no. I think "rehearsed" answers will be obvious and not sound "live". Still, you can make a list and think a while about each question, so that you have a schema for every topic. Just don't try to write and memorize answers, I think that can only make it worse. And be aware that there is no much time for the whole interview, so answer briefly, but deeply. But I remind you, I didn't pass the interview, so I may bee wrong :) just IMHO

I see eye to eye with you that we could not anticipate the questions that we will be asked. But do not you think that it is sensible to prepare answers for the possible questions? Have not you made a list of these kinds of questions? :)

Comment by Max Znak on January 16, 2012 at 10:23am

First advice - don't prepare too much :) You cannot really prepare, because the commission can ask any questions. Read recommendations which you have in your letter - go through your application materials and especially your essays, most probably the questions would be concerned with them. Speek freely, but stay on the subject, don't ask inappropriate questions, be enthusiastic and frank. I think that's the way :)
