Comment by JTawfilis@aol.com on January 12, 2013 at 2:02am Happy New Year to all. I think the video link below will explain a lot about what we have been doing for the past 17 years and what we plan to continue in support of a Culture of Peace through art and education!
Comment by Renee Day on September 21, 2012 at 1:14am Dear Joan,
I completely agree with you. As a parent and an educator, I am horrified that such a video is accessible to young people, especially children. My government students asked if there was a way to pull the video off of YouTube because it is so offensive. While they understand the principle of freedom of speech, they would like to see it removed from public view because they don't want their younger brothers and sisters to come across this video clip and be exposed to such inappropriate and prejudiced content. I have to agree with my students. The best way for us to deal with such a message of hate espoused in that video is for all of us to come together as an international community and send a message of peace. After all, September 21 is the International Day of Peace. Let's send each other a message of peace and hope tomorrow.
Kind regards,
Renee
Comment by Joan Bouchard deCallejas Juanita on September 20, 2012 at 8:31pm I would like to state, as a member of this group, to all our Muslim members and their friends, that I know NO ONE of my fellow U.S. citizens who would agree in ANY way with the attitude towards the Prophet Mohammed that appears in the video that is now circulating on Youtube, and I know the U.S. government does not hold those views or support them in any way.
I hope that violence can be avoided in the protests again this video, since I know that would make the situation even worse, and would certainly harm relations between the U.S. and countries with substantial Muslim populations.
On EC we have talked a lot about peace, and how much we value that - I hope we can all remember that at this time. Love to all, Joan/Juanita/"Auntie"
Therefore, the need for American people and students around the world to learn about other countries culture especially Sierra Leonean culture is important as FFALD makes it possible through this International Delegates Summit.
Not only is FFALD one of the only student exchange events in America and Sierra Leone, it is one of the most exclusive and high-demand student-run conferences in the world. It is unique among its peers in that it offers real opportunities after the summit ends in the form of an active online alumni community and opportunities for outcome funding for projects designed by summit delegates.
The summit will give students an opportunity to fundraising on Do Something and Taking It Global websites.
Above all, FFALD hopes to foster a greater sense of exchange community among the world’s young people, through multicultural programs, with a view toward a better tomorrow.

Comment by JTawfilis@aol.com on April 18, 2012 at 7:59pm I just came from the last high school in San Diego, California USA that has an ART FESTIVAL and active ART program of it's kind and was overjoyed to see and hear how the students felt about creating a mural of hope to end to Chardon High School in Ohio. They expressed what it meant to work together for something that meant something and how they learned about eachother and bonded and discovered friendships they would not have otherwise formed; it was the large stretch of white canvas (5'x12') that gave them the opportunity to EXPRESS themselves and GIVE them a VOICE to tell the students who survived the violence there, that their thought and prayers and good wishes were being sent in friendship and reaching out to them. We will create a video of their mural and their own testimony and share it with you and send the link so you can see for yourselves why ART (all forms) are so meaningful in the academic situation. Unfortunately, she said due to BUDGET cuts the programs were to be cut next year. How very sad.....
