I think the best practical start is to set a meeting for active members and brain storm together.

then decide to make a monthly meeting (like first Saturday of every month for example) and put a plan of subjects we want to work on through coming months. After that we can know what event we want to start with and who can participate in preparation.

Just an idea.. :)

Wish you all the best

Hani - that is an admirable mission and I hope that you get a chance to meet people and spread your ideas!  Connecting people with other people is the best way to change the world :)

I just noticed many Yasser Alaa's!!! But you can go to flicker from the facebook page and look at Yasser Alaa's Photo Stream to see his work...awesome!

Hello Dr. Ezeldin:  I am in the US while doing medical follow up with my cancer battle (I am in remission!) and my husband is simultaneously doing kidney dialysis...so we are not at our home in Alexandria (Sidi Bishr) and can't travel there until Fouad's transplant is done and he is recovered.:( That's another reason I want to stay connected with all that is happening!).  You should know that a very young Egyptian man by the name of Yasser Alaa has won 2nd place in the National Geographic Photo Competition for landscape photography but his real talent is a series he is doing called "Street Portraits".  His photography shows REAL people of Egypt and can take your heart and soul back to ancient times through their faces ....it is nothing LESS than marvelous. I think he has several on his facebook page...a must see! It is young people like him that need to be in exchange projects, yet something he said when I mentioned that to him touched my heart.  He said "If I were away, I would miss my Father's smile and my Mother's hug"...that says so much about the beautiful and still intact family culture in Egypt.

Wow J, what amazing suggestions you made!  iEARN is such a great resource and program, I hope that they are still effectively reaching out and engaging with the community  in Cairo.  Egypt has an amazingly rich history (and present!!) that I think the whole world can learn from. Hani, what do you mean by an "active EC center in Egypt"?  Do you mean an office or something like that?

I might add that I think we must find ways to share Egypt's incredible wealth of World Cultural Heritage and her contributions to humanity... more exchange projects are needed more than ever during these times of transition in Egypt.

Hi Hani:

I think it would be great if we could establish an active center for Exchange Connect IN EGYPT...the problems are not easy to tackle given the situation there and some strong sentiment about this being a US based project.  However, there are some great networks in place that are EC oriented...one of them is iEARN (International Education and Resource Network) where school aged youth work together and Egypt has a strong iEARN office in Cairo.  For adults I would recommend working with AUC or another University that might be interested in establishing a UNESCO Club....how EC could connect might be to network and make contacts to continue, improve, develop and create new chapters...I will give this more thought if you are thinking about adults getting involved....when we speak with educators around the world (and in Egypt) we are singing to the choir...Perhaps associating with the "Culture Wheel" in Cairo would be a good place to start networking...
