Cultural diplomacy, which has been defined as “the exchange of ideas, information, art, and other aspects of culture among nations and their peoples in order to foster mutual understanding,” is an important part of public diplomacy; for it is in cultural activities that language barriers and political differences are broken down.
In an effort to promote greater collaboration among the international arts community, the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs decided to launch Cultural Crossroads, an online network that will provide arts practitioners and managers a venue for sharing information about international cultural travel and cultural diplomacy topics.

Through this discussion forum, ECA hopes to improve support for arts-based exchange programs and grow an international network of artists.
We invite performers, presenters, and Embassy and Consulate staff worldwide to join the conversation here on Cultural Crossroads.

Here are some links to major dance companies in the US for modern dance. I like the Institute of Contemporary art and Green Street Studio performances in Boston, MA USA. These can give you a good idea of the landscape of the contemporary dance scene here.
Best,
Laura
