The bottom line: if you don't have a web presence, you don't exist.
More and more, people's first impression of an artist comes from what they find through a Google search, not from going to a live performance, art exhibit, poetry reading, etc.
YouTube has provided a way for anyone to get "discovered" (Justin Bieber! Rebecca Black!).
