Take time and completely think through all your answers - the first round of selecting takes place before you ever have an interview. I asked my friends and parents to read my application and give feedback. Put your personality into your answers, because you want to be set apart from others. I know that in my highschool I'm very active, and I kept forgetting to include all the clubs and projects I was in, so think hard about every little thing you're involved in. Keep on top of the application!! I let other things take presidence, and ended up rushing to get everything done on time, which was really stressful, and meant that I almost didn't make the deadline. Also, stay organized. Make a file on your email account for all the CBYX emails, and keep copies of the documents you have to upload in a folder somewhere safe. If your organization requires a physical (I know AFS does), make sure you schedule it well in advance, and apply for your passport even if you're not sure if you're going. Be patient, because waiting for news at every step of the process is close to torture, but could be completely worth it.

I'm filling out the application now through AFS, but it says it's a pre-application. Is there a full application to complete after I submit this one?

Does anyone know if you're supposed to get a confirmation email saying that your recommendations were received? The teachers I had write my recommendations told me they sent them, but I want to make sure it went through.
