Comment by Ali on March 6, 2012 at 1:18pm Today, in honor of Ghana’s 55th Independence Day, I encourage you to think about what “independence” means to you. When is Brazil’s Independence Day? How do you celebrate? What effect has independence had on your country, if any? Let us know in the new discussion going on, titled “Independence Days Around the World”!

Comment by gaylan wright on March 2, 2011 at 3:29am I went to Brazil in May and June 2008 to play soccer for a week with Cruiseros futbol club (former club of Ronaldo, Diada, and Ronaldinho)
My college coach trained there when he was younger and we got a deal. I went to Rio de Janeiro 1st stop the city is beautiful we had the beach and one side and the rainforest covered mountains at the other. The beaches are a little different than the US beaches. I noticed Brazilians wear smaller swimsuits even the men wear a sunga (Brazilian Speedo) is the norm at the beach. Portion sizes at fast food restaurants will be smaller than American sizes. The Christo statue, Soccer Museum, and Maracana(biggest soccer stadium in the world) are must sees. Word of advice do not cheer for an opposing team on the street or bar it will anger the locals they take soccer very serious. My time training in Bello Horizonte was spent mostly on the soccer compound Brazilians take soccer very serious I think the ages ranged from 8-21. They practice twice a day for 5 days a week usually Saturday is game day. Brazilians are generally very nice people they will welcome you into their house as if you one of there family.
